A rich history suffuses Auckland's most spectacular and prestigious music theatre and function venue.  Built in 1929, The Civic was an outstanding example of the 'atmospheric cinema' with a unique soft-top design that floats above the auditorium, allowing the famed stars effect (the effect is a recreation of the actual Southern Hemisphere skyscape). The Civic boasts an international standard 2350-seat lyric theatre as well as a number of unique bar and function spaces, such as the Winter Garden, the Safari Room and the Taj Mahal Room.
