Officially opened in 1911, the building houses two performance venues - the Great Hall and Concert Chamber as well as the Council Chamber, Mayoral offices and of course, a number of unique function spaces. The Great Hall has been fully restored to its original grandeur. It's original design was modeled on the great Gerwandhause Concert Hall in Leipzig, Germany which was bombed during World War II. Today the Great Hall is regarded as one of the finest acoustically-tuned concert halls in the world.

The Auckland Town Hall is restored to it's earlier glory after a $32.8 million restoration.
