Bay Oval is a world-class international cricket ground and a vibrant community hub — and we’re now looking for a Venue & Event Manager to help us continue building on that success.
Nestled in the heart of Mount Maunganui, with stunning views of Mauao and a relaxed coastal vibe, Bay Oval isn’t just about cricket. From international matches and Super Rugby Pacific games to corporate functions, community festivals and concerts, our venue is a true celebration of sport, culture, and connection.
Our Venue & Event Manager will drive commercial growth, secure high profile events and lead the successful planning and delivery of large scale sporting, entertainment and community experiences.
This is a key position with huge potential to grow our function and event offering. You’ll be the driving force behind delivering exceptional events – both for external clients and Bay Oval-led experiences.
- Secure large scale events (concerts, international cricket, major sporting fixtures) in collaboration with the General Manager and key stakeholders
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key clients, promoters, and partners
- Negotiate complex event contracts and Venue Hire Agreements
- Develop commercial pricing structures and hire packages
- Lead the planning and delivery of events at Bay Oval
- Ensure compliance with resource consent conditions, venue strategy, health & safety
- Lead the Venue Coordinator and casual workforce
- Oversee vendor partnerships (security, AV, production, catering, bar, etc.)
- Deliver post-event analysis, reporting and continuous improvement recommendations
- Contribute to enhancing the overall visitor and stakeholder experience
Our ideal person will:
- Be an experienced senior events or venue professional, with demonstrated success delivering events at scale (ideally 5+ years’ experience).
- Bring proven experience in event management and hospitality.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively.
- Have experience managing staff, contractors, and suppliers.
- Be confident in contract negotiation.
- Be comfortable using IT systems and scheduling tools.
- Take a proactive, solutions-focused approach, with a willingness to be hands-on when required.
- Be flexible and available to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays in line with event schedules (this is not a typical 9–5 role).
This is a full-time role offering variety, creativity, and the opportunity to leave your mark on a truly special venue. You'll work alongside a passionate team, in a stunning location, helping to shape a destination loved by locals and visitors alike.
If you're ready to take the next step in your events career and bring energy, innovation, and professionalism to the Bay Oval team — we’d love to hear from you.
